Marc James

Marc James2

Marc's story isn't conventional. Nor is his creativity. And both combine to make for some truly great music.

Frontman, songwriter and session guitarist, Marc has played many roles over the years. Before setting up his own label Full Circle Records in 2005, Marc released most of his songs through Vineyard Music who brought him to your attention when he was featured on the classic album Hungry. Remember that song Surrender? That's one of Marc's. Remember that voice on the albums Holy, Beautiful and Winds of Worship Live from Nottingham? Yup, that's Marc too. And Verra Cruz you know their whiplash guitars that lash the speakers like a force ten gale that's all Marc too.

This last element of Marc's story - the band - started in St Albans, a north London town known more for its eponymous martyr and Roman ruins than its export of three piece rock gurus. But that's the way that the Verra Cruz story goes - scripted by their own hand, regardless of past editions.

Marc James formed the band in the late 90's with drummer Jimmy Cooke as an outlet for his growing collection of brilliantly crafted songs. Nick Bright (bass) joined the band in September 2000.

Together they became a powerful, tight and passionate live band and grew a large and loyal fan base.

Critics praised the band for their intelligent lyrics welded to purebred, authentic rock, while fans lapped up the cd as well as the live shows across the UK and Europe.

Having supported US platinum surf-rockers Switchfoot on their European tour in 2007, VC went back to recording - emerging in 2008 with Innocence - an album worthy of all the band's potential. With a deeper focus, some strings, a touch of Rhodes and a sneak taste of flute all making an appearance, Marc's world was certainly shifting. '

Now, a couple of years on, comes Surrender - an album of raw, unscripted worship from a man who is learning to use all God has given him for praise. Produced by Julian Kindred (World Service & Mezzamorphis for Delirious?, Mercy Me, Rebecca St James), the depth of Marc's heart after God is laid bare with songs that overflow with thanks and gratitude to the one true God.
